Twitter Partners Foursquare to Launch Location Tagging for Tweets

Twitter, in partnership with Foursquare, is launching geolocation-based tags for tweets through official applications as well as the website. The company has already shared a video on how this will work on the iOS platform.

Location services on Twitter currently track your coordinates through sensors on your mobile device, allocating you a position based on these measurements. With the rollout of the new service, users can now tap the location button onscreen which opens up a list of suggested places nearby. This allows users to select a very specific spot as per their choice.

It was rumored that Twitter was already exploring a partnership with Foursquare since late 2014. As the article on TechCrunch states, Business Insider had revealed that the geolocation service was ready to be rolled out in the first quarter of 2015.

Incorporating location-based services on tweets is expected to help Twitter expand its advertising and monetization ventures. It will also help acquire new users, who can now access location-specific tweets before they start creating their very own timeline.
