Editorial Guidelines for all content submissions

 

The MarTech Advisor Guest Author Program and Community Contributor Program are opportunities for industry practitioners to share their voice and perspectives with our audience of millions of marketers. Following these guidelines will help us publish your content and deliver the most value to both – readers and authors.

Content Vision

 

Articles should ideally:

 

1. Highlight marketing challenges & opportunities and offer ideas, perspectives and approaches to address them

 

2. Help readers make more informed Martech investment choices or

 

3. Help readers leverage existing Martech solutions more effectively

 

4. Help further the reader’s skills and career as a marketer

 

Content Objectivity & Transparency

 

Content must:

 

1. Be original (previously unpublished and non-plagiarized) and exclusive to MarTech Advisor

 

2. Be platform/vendor neutral to avoid editorial snips

 

3. Be non-promotional and present an all-round view.

 

4. Be fair and transparent and offer multiple perspectives instead of absolutes as far as possible.

 

5. Specify all necessary attributions and credits when quoting others or using stats

 

6. Please refer to our existing set of articles for more clarity.

 

Article Specifications

 

Each article must be accompanied by the following information:

 

1. Topic category: A list of all our categories can be found here. Articles matching our editorial calendar monthly focus will be prioritized.

 

2. Intro: 30–40-word intro that describes the article focus and takeaway for the reader.

 

3. Length: 700–1200 words. For longer submissions, discuss with MTA editorial team in advance.

 

4. Author details:

  • 100-word author bio
  • Website URL, Twitter and LinkedIn handles for author and company
  • Author’s recent headshot (300 x 300 pixels)

Search Optimization

 

For most effective discoverability/ amplification, please pay attention to these best practices:

 

1. Title: 4-6 words with one thematic keyword included

 

2. Article Body:

  • Weave in up to 3 keywords in an organic and relevant manner
  • Divide your article into sub-sections; and use keywords in your sub-heads
  • Use numbering or bullet points where possible, instead of long paragraphs
  • Write conversationally, using questions to start the discussion

 

3. Hyperlinks: no more than 2 external hyperlinks (to relevant vendor-neutral content/quotes, survey reports and research study) in a 700-word feature plus 1 hyperlink to the author’s own website from the Author Bio.

 

4. Images: if you are including accompanying images, please provide an ‘alt-tag’ search keyword for it as well.

 

5. Non-text article submissions: Infographics, slideshare or video-based content submissions must be accompanied with a minimum 450 to 500-word search optimized content piece and attributed to an author.

 

6. Amplification:

  • Where possible, mention and hyperlink this article in other articles or blog posts you write elsewhere
  • Do publish this article on your corporate website/blog and credit MTA as the source
  • Do share and tag MTA on Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media for maximum reach

 

MTA turnaround time on submissions:

 

1. Once you commit to submitting an article, please do so within 4 weeks of the confirmation

 

2. Due to the high volumes of content we manage:

  • We cannot confirm publish dates in advance – we usually publish a piece within 3 weeks of submission
  • Upon publication, you/your rep will receive an automated email with a link to the published article
  • Please avoid follow-ups for the first 3 weeks to help us process your content more efficiently

 

Other important information

 

1. Hyperlinks: All hyperlinks are subject to Editorial approval and may be removed at our discretion if found unsuitable

 

2. Content Edits: MTA reserves the right to make editorial changes for clarity, tone and style. We usually edit out promotional content and unnecessary brand references. Submission of content does not guarantee publication.

 

3. Paid advertorial opportunities are available if you wish to promote your brand, product or Executive

 

4. Content placement & ownership:  

  • MTA reserves the right to place any contributed content in any section of the site that it deems fit or use the content or part thereof on any of its sister properties across the Ziff Davis Network, including in newsletters and other promotional content.
  • In all such cases, content ownership and author credits will remain with the author (you) and such ownership and authorship will be duly acknowledged and mentioned when published.

 

5. Due notice: Due to the high volumes of content we process, we are unable to give advance notice to authors on edits to content or hyperlinks, as well as if the content or excerpts are used on other network publications or platforms. If you wish to discuss any changes, highlight any typos/revisions after publication; or ask about publication on other sites and materials, please contact our staff and we will assist you.
